Even while I adore puzzle games, my enjoyment of them is frequently fleeting. That’s usually a result of the genre, where every new task is an adaptation of the one before it. While picross boards may get bigger and falling pieces may fall more quickly over time, the fundamental goals stay the same.

Stagnation is cleverly avoided in Islands of Insight. Rather to having players solve a single form of puzzle, the game immerses them in an expansive universe full of many puzzle types. When you grow weary of one form of brainteaser, there’s always another one close by, ready to activate a different area of your cerebellum.

Variety Offers Longevity and Insight

Yes, you might eventually work on logic puzzles that need you to arrange black or white squares on a board. You’ll need to follow a set of rules that changes every time in order to pass each one. These might demand that every white square be connected or prohibit two-by-two blocks of a particular color. Fortunately, Insight provides 23 different types of puzzles to keep you busy when analytic weariness sets. Thankfully, it doesn’t toss them all at once; instead, new problem types occur on a regular basis.

After I got tired with match-3 and logic boards, Insight’s perspective puzzles drew me in. The floating rings that interlaced were one of my favorites. This is where you will set up your location so that you can point through each sphere’s intersection. In other tasks, you have to locate invisible things or figure out where on a board you can stand to see every figurine clearly. A great feature of Islands of Insight is its ability to transition between analytical and spatial reasoning, as well as back again.

Puzzle World

The freedom you have in the game is another awesome element. Islands immerses you in a densely populated open environment, as opposed to the narratively focused series of puzzles found in Portal 2 or The Talos Principal. Reaching one of the various hilltops in the game may allow you to see over a dozen distinct puzzles that are just waiting to be solved. The game’s developer, Lunarch Studios, asserts that there are more than 10,000 distinct tasks. That estimate seems reasonable considering how there appear to be numerous riddles waiting for you to solve wherever you look on the map.

It’s clear that Islands’ organic-looking setting was intended to avoid giving players a sense of isolation. Throughout the game’s five biomes, you’ll witness other players running, and each time an on-screen notification highlights a player’s accomplishment, you’ll be prompted to take action as well. Strangely yet, Insight forgoes any kind of real cooperative gaming, making sure that each and every challenge can be completed by anyone working alone.

Until the servers crash, solve

The fact that each puzzle is designed for a single player renders the game’s constant online requirement unnecessary. Yes, it’s pleasant to occasionally run into other people while exploring the globe, and if you’d want, you may go around solving puzzles together. However, having allies does not mean that you should always be able to access the internet. In a similar vein, the developers’ requirement for mouse and keyboard control may annoy gamers who would rather use gaming controllers.

However, if you don’t mind such restriction, Islands of Insight can satisfy you in the long run. Rewards will come in a steady stream as you answer riddles. In addition to the required cosmetics, you’ll acquire physical skills that facilitate movement and grant access to new locations. There is no denying the allure of this loop of switching between riddles and reaping rewards for every solution. One of the title’s most difficult decisions may be if it’s sufficient to overcome the game’s online necessity.

Summary : Islands of Insights comes alive as you run and glide across its sensory environment, solving new riddles every few minutes. However, the lack of really cooperative puzzles means that players may find the internet necessity of the game confusing.
