MD has finally revealed the launch prices for its new range of Ryzen 9000 desktop CPUs, and it’s pricing them slightly lower than the Ryzen 7000 launch prices. Priced at $649, the top Ryzen 9 9950X with 16 cores will be $50 less expensive than the $699 Ryzen 9 7950X that was introduced over two years ago. The remaining models in the lineup range in price from $20 to $50 cheaper than comparable Ryzen 7000 CPUs.
The Ryzen 7 9700X ($359) and Ryzen 5 9600X ($279) will ship on August 8th, after the company postponed the release of its Ryzen 9000 CPUs “out of an abundance of caution.” On August 15th, the Ryzen 9 9950X ($649) and Ryzen 9 9900X ($499) will launch.

With significant claims of performance gains in both productivity work and gaming, AMD is claiming a 16 percent instructions per cycle (IPC) increase in performance over the previous generation Ryzen CPUs.
For these new Ryzen 9000 series CPUs, AMD is also releasing new motherboard chipsets, the X870 and X870E, however these motherboards won’t be available at launch. Fortunately, AMD has promised to support the AM5 socket until at least 2027, so these new Ryzen 9000 CPUs are compatible with any AM5 motherboard now on the market.
The release of AMD’s new CPUs coincides with Intel, its primary rival, experiencing crashing and unstable performance difficulties with its 13th and 14th generation desktop CPUs. The core source of the issues has been identified by Intel, and a microcode remedy is scheduled to be released in the upcoming weeks. However, current CPUs that have already sustained damage from excessive voltages will require replacement.
